Fishing picked back up around #1 buoy most are using bandits but I switched over to disc’s and spoons. Out front of Luna Pier was good until the Maumee dumped a bunch of debris from East winds right in the fishing grounds and turned the water muddy. The water has been mixing around the MI dump there were some stained water lines to fish along but after one pass the water would remix and the fish wouldn’t bite on the second pass. C buoy to Bolles seemed to have cleaner water but the fish were scattered if you put your time in, a nice grade of walleye can be caught. A slow troll 1.8 mph seemed to be the ticket. The surface temperature was 61.8 today

Walleye fishing on the Western Basin has been very productive during the Mayfly hatch especially early morning and late afternoon. Best bets are off Stoney Point near the restriction buoys at Fermi in 22 to 24 ft. of water. Either side on #1 buoy for about a mile and a half all the way back towards Bolles Harbor into 17 feet of water. The “Swamp” near Turtle Island to Luna Pier in 15′ to 17′ of water produced early mornings. I’ve used spoons with mini disc’s and wiggle warts both run from 70′ to 80′ back – color didn’t seem to matter. High divers at 42′ to 45′ and low divers 32′ to 36′. Jr. Silver Streak spoon – Cat-Dog seemed the best on my low diver. Lots of short walleye this week, be patient the keepers will come. It’s a good thing for our future.
Please be courteous to fellow trollers and drifters we are all out to have fun and catch some walleye. Remember the U.S.C.G. “rules of the road” state if you are being approached by another vessel from your port side you the “right of way”. If you are being approached from your starboard side you “must give way” to the approaching vessel. If your board gets run over it’s probably an accident no need to come unglued at the offending fisherman. Have fun Be safe

Walleye fishing off Stoney Point near the Michigan Ohio boarder, many limit catches using spoons and divers 70 to 90 back,
spoon color didn’t matter. Bandits produced well 70 to 90 back. E buoy and the Michigan dump always has walleyes on it but they seemed to slow up a bit this past week. Limit catches are still being taken on Bandits 60 to 70 back on a mixture of colors. Spoons and disks produced well but are taking more shorts.

Perch fishing is beyond slow for this time of the year. Our average catch has been around 40 perch for 4 hours of fishing. The perch are either 5 to 6 inches or 10 plus inches. The surface water temperature has been 70 degrees since August. I am catching lots of 3 to 6 inch walleyes in with the perch. Lately I’ve caught 10 to 12 inch walleye right on the bottom where the perch should be. I’ve fished from the Toledo Lighthouse to Sputnik, Brest Bay and as far North as the Banana Dike with the same results, about 40 perch on average kept.
I will be attending a Lake Erie Committee meeting next week and hope to find out more about our dismal perch fishing. Hopefully we can get some trawl data soon to see if what we a marking as perch are really perch on the bottom.
Walleye fishing has been on and off depending on the day. Last weekend a few fellow captains caught limit catches but that petered out at the beginning of the week due to North East winds. They fished from E Buoy to the Raisin River buoys using Bandits 70 to 80 feet back and varying their speed.

Lake Erie walleye fishing report
Walleye fishing is still good in the Western Basin. We had a real slow day Monday morning due to a cold front and a storm Sunday night. Fishing picked right back up on Monday afternoon. I’m still fishing wiggle warts on one side 60 to 80 ft. back, seemed anything with a red bill was out producing ones with out. The other side I’m running mini discs 70 ft. back with Silver Streak Jr.s color didn’t seem to matter, I believe it’s the larger profile. High divers set at 3 42 to 46 back and low divers set at 1 32 to 35 back. My speed varies from 2.2 knots to 2.4 knots quartering into the wind seemed to produce better.
Stoney Point seemed to have a good number of catchable walleye in 22 to 24 ft of water with no weeds. The Water Intake in 22ft water was a producer to. Seemed E Buoy area really slowed as with over the Michigan dump, the area around Turtle Island slowed but still holds fish. Around the contours just in front of the Edison plant is holding fish to.
As with all things be kind to your fellow trollers. Don’t sit with your back to the helm staring at your rods, that’s what your buddies are for, it’s a good way to piss off other trollers. I ran over someone’s gear who was not paying attention and approaching from my port side and I’m the bad guy? Remember a boat approaching from your starboard has the right of way

Perch Fishing Report Lake Erie MIchigan 08-17-2018
Perch fishing has been on again off again all this week. Best bets in Michigan are the Michigan dump, between the dump and the Raisin River, also between the Raisin River buoys and Stoney Point in 24′ of water. E buoy and C buoy were producing last weekend. I have not fished E or C in over a week. This general area has been good for me. A word of caution! if you venture over the line you will get stopped and checked by the Ohio DNR. I’ve been checked this week only being over the line a few hundred yards near E buoy! I see many small boats race out not knowing they are over the line when they see charter boats fishing. The end result, they received tickets for not possessing an Ohio fishing license.
If you see a pack of boats perch fishing it does not necessarily mean they are catching perch. Boats attract boats! If you see a boat catching perch don’t pull up and fish on top of them! The likelihood of you pulling that boats fish to you are usually “O”. Best bet is to slowly cruse the area using your graph, sometimes you will only mark small amounts of fish on or near the bottom. Set up and fish for them, give it 20 minutes or so. Sometimes the perch start off biting slow but more will fish be attracted to the activity and the bite will improve. If your bite does not improve move a few hundred yards. I’ve moved up 6 or 7 times in a 1 mile area before I found a good school on the feed. You will feel and be more successful if you find your own fish.

Surface temperature is around 61 degrees. Slow trolling for walleye with Thunderstick Jr. and Bandits seemed to produce. Perch color baits. 60 ft back. Stoney Point and in front of Brest Bay in 20 to 24 ft of water produced nice walleye with only a few under size. The White Bass were thick at times. There are walleye between E buoy and Bolles Harbor in 15 to 18 ft of water, the fish were scattered here and there and thinned out near the Ohio boarder.

Walleye fishing has been very slow this past week. A captain friend has been fishing the North end of the Michigan dump. Tuesday he took 18 walleye, Wednesday 4, and Thursday 16 all on wiggle warts 80 back (Superman, Green Spec, orange Spec and Gold w/black back and red bill) – low divers set at 1 1/2 with any gold colored Jr. Streaks.

There is still some walleye to be caught over the Michigan and Ohio dumping grounds. Wiggle Warts 70 to 90 feet back and low divers set at 1 1/2 – 22 feet out seemed to be the ticket earlier in the week. A captain buddy docked near me has walleye fished eariler in the week and managed to take 15 to 20 fish on each trip.
Perch fishing has been good all week. I have fished in the Turtle Island area and caught lots of Yellow Perch but really had to pick through them for keepers. There are a ton of fish in the area from Turtle Island to the 3 stacks in any where from 12 to 14 feet of water (Luna Pier). Take a little extra bait. Stoney Point has been on again and off again. West of Sputnik was good in 24 feet of water on Sunday and Monday with an average of 7 to 9 inchers. It started of with small ones but the size increased the longer we fished. I’ve been having to purchase extra bait to weed through smaller perch and small White Perch. I have caught some jumbo White Perch, kept them and ate em. Mixed in with the Yellow Perch no one could tell the difference.
