Water monitoring system needs federal help

For such an important mechanism everyone agreed was essential to preserving water quality, it's ironic to see how many communities it serves are unwilling to keep it operating.The Port Huron to Erie Drinking Water Monitoring System was hailed as a critical safeguard when it first went online in 2006. Thanks to federal funding, the $3.5 million warning system detected water-quality threats for waterfront communities of St. Clair, Macomb and Wayne counties that draw drinking water from the St. Clair River, Lake St. Clair, Detroit River and Lake Erie.
